(A) Integrating Taiwan's Drug Data of Crude Extracts and Pure Natural Isolates

TDEC includes two major construction goals, the first is to preserve important biological resources in Taiwan, and the second is to provide a functional and complete resource integration platform. TDEC integrates the “crude extracts”, “pure natural isolates” and “chemically synthesized derivatives” of natural products from Chinese herbal medicines, marine organisms, and microbes in domestic academic units and academic research institutions. Members can register their valuable research results in TDEC system to summarize and preserve important biological resources in Taiwan. Besides, TDEC provides a functional resource integration platform, including natural medicine database of samples, biological activity database, the data calculation of physiochemical property, multi-point matching value-added services and drug research of expert’s database, etc.

(B) Systematic Management of Laboratory Drugs and Sample Data

TDEC provides the registered data management function.

Members can register their valuable drug sample data in TDEC. After approval, the system will automatically distribute a TDEC ID to the approved drug sample. In addition, the registered data can be used to properly manage the list and breakdown of individual drug samples through the registered data management system. This function can facilitate the laboratory host to manage the drug samples. Through TDEC, TDEC ID is given to each drug sample. The drug sample entity of the laboratory is properly managed, and TDEC system management can quickly perform data registering, searching, modification and investigator matching functions.

(C) Increase the Opportunities for Interdisciplinary and Cross-regional Cooperation

TDEC has functional services such as query, management, analysis and investigator matching of drug sample data,

and provides inquiry and matching of information on drug structure, drug physicochemical properties and biological activity in the academic research institutions and industries. TDEC research resource data sharing and integration platform can connect natural product providers and new drug development scholars to integrate the research information in various fields, conduct interdisciplinary and cross-regional cooperation in new drug development, and combine experts in related fields of natural medicine, pharmacy, chemistry, and biology. TDEC can link up the key information on drug development, and establish the integration and sharing platform of development research resources in new domestic drugs. TDEC investigator matching function improves the exposure of drug samples, increases the possibility of interdisciplinary and cross-regional cooperation, effectively integrates research results, reduces the waste of research resources, enhances the development capabilities and competitiveness of drugs, and accelerates the development of new drugs. It can also provide the selectivity for drug development and research topics.

(D) The Solution of Problems for Drug Development Research

Through the TDEC functional resource integration and sharing platform, it provides diversified natural product information,

including biological activity data, drug structure data and physiochemical property data of drug samples, which can help to solve the problems of drug development research. For example, from the TDEC database, a pure natural isolate extracted from a plant may be with anticancer activity. You can think about new research topics from the structure and its anticancer activity, or you can use the investigator matching function to cooperate with another researcher and test the anticancer activity in other cancer cells, or if a crude extract of a plant has a specific biological activity in TDEC, you can choose another research topics, or plan cooperation project by matching function to speed up the determination of the active ingredients from this crude extract. In addition, TDEC can also be used to calculate whether a compound has high water solubility characteristics to provide structural modification research or improve the pharmacodynamic activity with different dosage forms.
